2024 - what a year! This is year How To Free A Jinn made me a debut Middle Grade fantasy author (thank you Allen and Unwin!) and the year I signed my dream publishing contract with Salaam Reads. Insyirah’s adventures will reach North America and beyond in Sept 2025 - please stay tuned for more :) I’ve seen the Salaam Reads cover of my book, and I can’t wait to share it!
This is also the year where I’ve had to grapple with the sadness that comes with being away from my family. As much as I cherish my life in Malaysia - I’ve been away from Sydney for ten years. Flying down to Sydney and Melbourne for my book tour was so wonderful, mostly because I got to celebrate with my loved ones there too! It’s hard, always living between worlds. My mother is getting older, my siblings, nephews and nieces are all abroad as well - I wish I had more time with them. It’s the daily routines that build memories, and that’s hard to do when we’re in completely different countries. I look forward to our visits there, and their visits here. Video calls just aren’t the same as spending quality time together.
And yet, I have the privilege of raising my children in safety and abundance - something families in so many parts of the world simply do not have. O Allah, please free Palestine, just as You freed Syria!
